While the route primarily consists of paved roads in various conditions and occasional gravel paths, advanced cycling skills aren’t necessary. However, practicing downhill riding before your journey is recommended.
- The cycling distances are relatively short, but Sri Lanka’s naturally hilly terrain and warm climate mean you’ll need to be in good physical shape. This is especially important for the included activities, which could contribute to fatigue. Fortunately, a support vehicle is always available if you need a break, whether it’s for an hour or an entire day.
- Throughout your trip, you’ll be guided by an expert cycling leader and a cycling guide/mechanic.
- Sri Lankan summers are notably hot, with brief, intense monsoons in the southwest. Be sure to use sun protection and stay hydrated. The weather can vary seasonally, so be ready for both sweat-inducing heat and occasional rain showers, which might lead to changes in plans.
- If you’re uncomfortable with heights, you may choose to skip climbing the Lion Rock at Sigiriya on Day 6, as it involves navigating steep, narrow steps and tight walkways.
